PM insights on how to up your speed and size game by discarding some of the bad advice you’ve been telling yourself.
In football, scheme is what you talk about when you don’t have size and speed. Because when you do, it doesn’t matter - just ask Derrick Henry. Schemers, and their devotee coach fanboys, posit that a smarter way to play wins games. Poker players love scheme. I bet even Shanahan loved scheme when McCaffrey was healthy. So did McVay with Aaron Donald and the 4-years-ago Stafford. But talent is as talent does. And it really is a much better scheme when you have it.
Speed is really something.
Is there a hedge fund analog to Tyreek Hill? Is it AI? Should this article just turn left and do another AI note? Are there not enough AI notes? There are enough AI notes. OK, we’ll talk about otherworldly traders.
There’s about 8 of them. They’re the traders who buy professional sports teams. They instinctively see the world in a completely different way. You can practice trading like them your whole life with absolute intention and you still cannot hang with them. They really move their feet. They see the opportunity well before you do. So, if you can find one (good luck!), I strongly recommend you hire them, seed their firm, or ask (beg?) them for a job.
You might meet one.
One, maybe, in your whole career. But let’s not let the basic probabilities (estimate: less than 1 in 100) discourage you. We’re not going to make a typical long/short PM become such a great trader that they too can buy a sports team. We might, however, learn a few things that we can apply to make the everyday HF PM a little better. We might incorporate them into our scheme. And a little better in 50%+ hit rate world, well, that ain’t bad.
